Why Our Prices Are Direct from the Manufacturer — And Why That Matters
Furniture pricing can often feel opaque. Two pieces that look similar can vary wildly in price, and it’s not always clear why. The reality is that in most cases, you’re not just paying for the furniture—you’re paying for the layers of businesses involved in getting it to you.
We’ve taken a different approach.
Almost every piece we sell is made by us, and sold directly to you. There is no importer, no distributor, and no retail middleman. That decision has a direct and meaningful impact on both price and quality.
How Traditional Furniture Pricing Works
In a typical furniture supply chain, a product passes through multiple stages:
- Manufacturer
- Exporter
- Importer / distributor
- Retailer
At each step, a margin is added. By the time the furniture reaches the showroom floor, the price has increased significantly—often without any improvement to the product itself.
This structure is standard across the industry, but it’s not the only way to do things.
At Rockwood we are the manufacturer, we are the exporter, we are the importer, we are the retailer.
Our Model: Direct from the Source
We design, manufacture, and sell our own furniture. That means:
- No third-party markups
- No import-related price inflation
- No disconnect between the people who build the furniture and the people who sell it
By removing these layers, we’re able to offer pricing that is closer to the true cost of producing high-quality solid teak furniture.
What This Means for You
1. Better Value for the Same Quality (or Better)
Instead of paying multiple margins, your budget goes directly into the materials and craftsmanship. In practical terms, this often means you’re getting a higher-grade product at a comparable—or lower—price than retail alternatives.
2. Greater Pricing Transparency
Our pricing reflects real inputs: solid teak, skilled labour, and proper construction. There’s no artificial inflation driven by distribution layers.
3. Direct Accountability
When the same company makes and sells the furniture, there’s no room for blame-shifting. We are fully accountable for what we produce, from design through to delivery.
4. Faster Feedback and Continuous Improvement
Because we interact directly with customers, feedback loops are shorter. This allows us to refine designs, improve construction, and respond quickly to real-world use cases.
Not “Cheaper”—Just More Efficient
It’s important to be clear: removing the middleman doesn’t mean cutting corners.
We still use 100% solid teak, proper joinery, and experienced craftsmen. Those inputs have real costs, and we don’t compromise on them.
What we remove is unnecessary cost, not quality.
Why This Approach Is Rare
Manufacturing and retail are typically separate businesses for a reason—they require different capabilities. Running both well takes more effort, tighter coordination, and a long-term mindset.
But the benefit is a simpler, more honest value chain:
- Fewer markups
- Better control over quality
- Clearer alignment between price and product
The Bottom Line
When you buy from us, you’re not paying for layers of intermediaries. You’re paying for materials, craftsmanship, and the work required to build furniture that lasts.
That’s what “direct from the manufacturer” actually means—and why it results in better value without compromising on quality.
