Finishing Options: Lacquer

Another common finishing for teak furniture is lacquer. It has similar qualities to varnish but a little tougher wearing than varnish for indoor furniture. Lacquer generally doesn't have very good UV protection so isn't as good as varnish for the outdoors.

As with varnish, it is common to add some colour to the lacquer when applying it, but clear lacquer is also available.

In terms of sheen, lacquer has a little more shine even when applying matte lacquer.

Pros: water proof and stain resistant. Slightly more scratch resistant than varnish. Wide range of colour and sheen options.

Cons: difficult and expensive to refinish when damaged.
